Council met. Present as yesterday

"... The Council agrees with Jacob Schley of Frederick County, who is to supply 10 large Rifles carrying a Ball of four Ounces weight for a sum not exceeding fifteen Pounds each."



Maryland Council of Safety to Jacob Schley, Annapolis, July 30, 1776:
" Sir: The publik service requires that you should send to this place with all expedition you can, the rifles by you made for the use of the Province: also, the ten large rifles contracted for by you to be made and delivered on the first day of August Next."

The large rifles refered to in this letter were to be "heavy, brass-mounted, black walnut stocked and to carry a four-ounce ball". Subsequent payments were received from the State Council on January 12, 1781, September 4, 1782, and June 7, 1783.
